Department of textile chemistry was started in the year 1998 under the affiliation of AICTE and Anna University. We are proud to inform Textile chemistry course is unique of its kind in entire south India as SSM College of Engineering is the only one offering B-Tech and M-Tech in Textile Chemistry.
Initially department of Textile Chemistry was offering only B-Tech, later in the year 2004 M-Tech was approved by AICTE and ANNA University. The Textile chemistry department consists of experienced and dynamic faculty members and the laboratories are well equipped with all required equipments for processing of fiber to fabric which includes dyeing, printing and finishing and computer colour matching laboratory. The Computer Colour Matching lab was inaugurated by Mr.Kasiram Rana .T Honorable Minister for Textiles in the year 2000.
Textile chemistry course focuses on various aspects of textile industry such as Fiber Science, spinning, weaving, knitting, wet processing preparatory, dyestuffs and auxiliaries’ chemistry and manufacturing ,textile processing, finishing, effluent treatment, process and quality control in textile wet processing, testing and technical textiles etc.
As part of our curriculum we are also encouraging our students to attend workshops, conferences, symposium organized by reputed organizations. We are glad our department students are achieving 100 % result and we are constantly being awarded every year with gold medal ever since from the year 2002.We have been successful in maintaining our high placement statistics from the first batch of our students.
Our alumni has set new standards through their estimable contributions in leading firms like Dystar, Huntsman, Gokuldas Exports, Shahi Exports, KG Denim, Vardhaman Textiles, Raymond, Madura Coats, Birdy Exports, ITS, SGS, TUV,MTS, Aravind mills, WFB, Jockey etc.
Our department has also got MODROBS grant in the year 2008 for 13 lakhs to establish garment processing laboratory. We have got Accreditation from NBA in the year 2008 for 5 years and in the year 2013 for 2 years. We have signed MOU with leading textile organization in having an Industrial institute Interaction cell to weaken the institution-industry barrier.
